Bio

Kia ora!

Ko Aoraki te maunga. Ko Opihi te awa. Ko Zealandia te waka. Ko Pākehā te iwi.

I am a qualified Clinical Family Therapist and a registered Social Worker.

I have twenty years experience working therapeutically, primarily in child and adolescent mental health services, with three years in adult mental health services. I have worked at the STOP children’s and adolescent programmes, in child protection, with refugees and in general hospital settings. I have worked in Christchurch, Melbourne and London. I currently work part-time as a School Counsellor and part-time in private practice. I provide supervision to Social Workers and those interested in using a systemic perspective in their practice.

My passion remains in supporting people to strengthen the relationships that are most important to them. I find it useful to look at the context of problems, understand individual stories, identify any barriers to change and facilitate conversations in a safe space. I remain focused on utilising individual, family and cultural strengths.

When not working my husband and I enjoy adventures with our three boys. Having completed a Certificate in Organic Horticulture I enjoy being in the garden and growing my own fruit and vegetables.

Expertise

I gained a Masters of Clinical Family Therapy from La Trobe University and the Bouverie Clinic in Melbourne in 2006. I also have qualifications in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Clinical Supervision, Social Work and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology. More recently I have completed Level 1 and 2 training in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, which takes into account trauma experienced by children and supports parents / caregivers to strengthen the attachment between themselves and the young people in their care as a means to heal and thrive.

Over the past thirteen years I have provided education and training in the area of Family Therapy and working systemically with families for the University of Otago, The Werry Centre, Canterbury Family Therapy Associates and the Canterbury District Health Board.
